Eddie Martin Awarded Exemplary Service to Home Building from NAHB

Washington, June 13 -  Edward “Eddie” Martin, Jr., a home builder and developer from Houston, received the Exemplary Service to Home Building Award  from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) on Saturday, June 13, 2026. The award ceremony took place during the 2026 Spring Leadership Meetings at the National Housing Center in Washington, D.C.

Established in 2014 by the National Housing Center Board of Governors, the Exemplary Service to Home Building Award recognizes individuals whose outstanding contributions have advanced the housing industry through leadership, community and economic development, housing affordability initiatives, improved access to homeownership, ethical business practices, and innovative solutions that strengthen home building and the many businesses and services that support it.

Martin has served as the president and CEO of Tilson Custom Home Builders since 1993. Under Martin’s leadership, Tilson has expanded its presence from five locations to 12, employing more than 245 people and more than 150 contractor partner companies. A hallmark of Martin’s career is expanding access to housing in rural and suburban areas. Tilson’s model of building on customers’ land has provided homeownership opportunities where large developers rarely build, filling a crucial gap in supply. This approach has not only strengthened Texas communities but has also inspired builders across the country to adopt similar strategies.

Martin has actively volunteered and taken on a variety of leadership roles with the Greater Houston Builders Association, Texas Association of Builders (TAB) and NAHB. In these roles, he has advocated for policies that keep housing affordable while maintaining consumer protections. His work has led to reforms that benefit both builders and buyers, offering a roadmap for effective housing advocacy nationwide.

Martin has been recognized over the years for his dedication to the housing industry, as he has received the TAB Presidential Distinguished Service Award and is a TAB Housing Hall of Honor Inductee—the highest TAB individual honor. Under his leadership, Tilson has also been recognized at the local, state and national levels.

“Through visionary leadership, persistent advocacy and a strong commitment to increasing housing access, Eddie has created lasting change throughout the home building industry,” said NAHB Chairman Bill Owens, a home builder and remodeler from Worthington, Ohio. “We are so grateful to Eddie for his contributions to the industry for all these years, and we are honored to present this award to him.”

Other Exemplary Service to Home Building Award recipients included Jerry Carter.
