Governor Abbott Proclaims October 2026 Careers in Construction Month

Proclamation requested by the Texas Association of Builders recognizes construction professionals and encourages career exploration

AUSTIN, Texas — At the request of the Texas Association of Builders (TAB), Governor Greg Abbott has issued a proclamation declaring October 2026 Careers in Construction Month in Texas. Signed August 24, the proclamation recognizes the construction industry’s contributions to the state’s economy and communities and highlights the need to prepare the next generation of skilled professionals.

“The contributions of construction workers have laid the literal foundation for the Texas that we know and cherish today,” Abbott states in the proclamation.

The proclamation emphasizes construction’s essential role in supporting Texas’ continued growth and recognizes the efforts of civic groups and industry professionals to provide training, tools and opportunities for aspiring workers. Throughout October, employers, trade associations and schools promote construction careers and increase public appreciation for the people who build our homes, workplaces and infrastructure.

TAB encourages its members, local home builders associations, educators and community partners to use the observance to introduce students and job seekers to construction careers. Job fairs, classroom presentations, jobsite visits and conversations with industry professionals can help Texans explore opportunities in the skilled trades and other construction fields.

By connecting education with hands-on experience and industry expertise, these efforts help prepare a workforce capable of meeting Texas’ housing and construction needs.
