Education

The Texas Association of Builders is committed to bringing you the education that is required for you to stay in business.  More importantly, your association will provide you with the very best training available.  TAB’s goal is to ensure that if you are meeting only the minimum requirements, you are receiving the maximum information.  TAB offers at least one statewide education initiative each year through the local home builders associations and online, self-study courses through this Web site.

See “Statewide Training Initiatives” and “TAB’s Online Courses” (below) for information on classes that are currently or soon-to-be offered.

The Sunbelt Builders Show™ and Education Conference is also an excellent opportunity to learn from the nation’s industry experts.  This year’s Show, October 29 – 31, will provide you with the best industry-specific information available.  Not only is the education conference a place to learn how to grow your business, but the trade show also offers you hundreds of opportunities to learn about the best and latest products, services and technology.  Complete Education Conference information can be found here.

“Residential Construction Contracts Training”

Click here for the schedule of contracts classes and registration information.

With the demise of the Texas Residential Construction Commission Act, a major overhaul of residential construction contracts became imperative, making the updated 2009 TAB Residential Construction Contracts package more valuable than ever.

The Texas Association of Builders’ (TAB) Contracts Package was prepared by a TAB committee for use by its members. The contracts and other forms are intended to encompass a variety of transactions that are typical in the field of residential construction and remodeling in the State of Texas. The residential construction industry is subject to a variety of laws concerning contract formation, disclosure of information, creation of liens to enforce payment obligations and similar matters. This class, presented by attorneys from The Bush Firm, P.C., will take you through the dozens of standardized contracts that TAB has prepared and included in this subscription package.

Although this class is open to all Texas builders and remodelers, the contracts package may be purchased by members of the Texas Association of Builders only.

Mandatory Continuing Education Requirements.

As you know, H.B. 1038 was passed by the 80th Texas Legislature and became effective September 1, 2007. This law requires all builders and remodelers registered by the Texas Residential Construction Commission (TRCC) to complete five (5) hours of continuing education, one (1) hour of which must address ethics, and at least two (2) hours that must address limited statutory warranties, building & performance standards and requirements of the International Residential Code. The additional two (2) hours are elective, and can include attending a training class offered through your HBA, participation in your association, taking a NAHB designation course or self-directed study.

The builder who is registered with the TRCC must receive the continuing education, unless the builder is a corporation or other business entity. In that instance, the registered builder may designate another individual to satisfy the requirements.

Once a builder has taken a course, it is their responsibility to provide the TRCC with that information. The “Certificate of Attendance Form” can be found on the TRCC’s Web site at http://www.trcc.state.tx.us/Forms_Library/Continuing_Education_Attendance.pdf.
